The «Discovery» cycle in a nutshell
Organised once a year since 2011 with the support from SNCF, The «Discovery» cycle is aimed at students aged 18 to 30 in the Ile-de-France region preparing a vocational higher education diploma (BTS, BUT, licence, master, etc.).
The aim of the «Discovery» cycle is to encourage collective, decompartmentalised thinking on the spirit of defence and the security-defence continuum.
The IHEDN Endowment Fund provides participants with in-depth information on the IHEDN and its activities. defence and security policy as well as safety issues at SNCF by giving them the opportunity for direct exchanges with military personnel and public service professionals.
The programme includes lectures, immersion visits (military sites and sites representative of the SNCF's security business) and committee work.
The 11e The «Discovery» cycle took place from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 April 2024.
The 39 participants from the 2024 session were received at the SNCF Safety Department (Paris 10e), at 12th Cuirassiers Regiment (12e RC) (Olivet, 45), at the 123 Air Base (BA 123) (Orléans-Bricy, 45) and the SNCF dog-handling platform (Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, 94).
The end of the last day was devoted to reporting on the work carried out by the two committees to which the trainees had been assigned.
In the presence of authorities from the SNCF, the IHEDN Endowment Fund and the’IHEDN, They were joined by the heads of the universities represented, and made recommendations on the following topics:
- COMMITTEE 1 : The resilience of society
- COMMITTEE 2 : Mobilising society in the event of a major crisis
The certificates of participation were then presented to them in the Salon des Maréchaux at the École Militaire by the Lieutenant General Benoît DURIEUX, Director of IHEDN and Higher Military Education (EMS), and Xavier ROCHE, Director of Security for the SNCF Group.
