WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND?

Created by Article 140 of Law No. 2008-776 of 4 August 2008 on the modernisation of the economy, the endowment fund is an innovative way of financing philanthropy that combines the advantages of the 1901 association and the foundation.

An endowment fund has legal personality and is made up of an irrevocable allocation of assets to carry out a mission or work of general interest. It collects funds from private sources, which it can either set up as an endowment and use the proceeds, or use to accomplish its mission. It may carry out this mission itself, or fund another public-interest organisation to carry it out.

The endowment fund benefits from the tax regime for sponsorship and gives entitlement to a tax reduction of 60 % of the payments made.
