On Friday 18 June, Julien Malizard will be taking part in a conference entitled «The military lessons of the Gulf War», organised by the Ministry of Defence's Service historique de la défense. Registration is now open.
Julien Malizard, Deputy Chair, will discuss this Friday 18 June, from 2.30 pm to 4 pm, the financing of armies in the aftermath of the Gulf War and the Cold War, as part of an online conference on «The military lessons of the Gulf War».
This conference is being organised at the Senate (Palais du Luxembourg) by the Service historique de la défense (SHD) in partnership with the Direction de l'enseignement militaire supérieur (DEMS), the École de Guerre (EDG), the Centre de doctrine et d'enseignement du commandement (CDEC), the Centre d'études stratégiques aérospatiales (CESA) and the Centre d'études stratégiques de la Marine (CESM). It is under the patronage of General François Lecointre, Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, and the patronage of Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee.
Julien Malizard will talk about defence budget issues in France from 1991, These include the reversal of the Cold War trend, the strong prevalence of economic issues in budgetary decisions, and the fact that the peace dividend was more limited in France than in the United States and the United Kingdom.
